National College of Indigenous Scholars

Leading bold systemic change so Indigenous faculty are supported, valued, and empowered as academic leaders within Canadian higher education.

Who we are

An Indigenous-led college for scholars, by scholars.

The National College of Indigenous Scholars (NCIS) is a new Indigenous-led initiative of First Nations University of Canada, established with the generous support of the Mastercard Foundation EleV Program. NCIS offers support, research, and advocacy for Indigenous scholars across every stage of their academic careers.

We inform systemic change through kinship mentorship rooted in trust, reciprocity, and shared learning — strengthening our collective work as educators in Indigenous higher learning.

Our approach

Centering relationality, kinship, and Indigenous futurities.

Indigenous faculty development strengthens professional identities by affirming knowledge systems and leadership traditions. Co-developed with the scholars it serves, our approach promotes relevancy, responsiveness, and cultural continuity.
